Compostable & Plastic-Free Serveware

129 products · minimums from 50 · 7–16 business days

Everything else on this site argues that reuse beats disposal, and it does. But an event that serves four thousand coffees is not going to hand out four thousand tumblers, and the honest choice at that point is between a plastic-lined cup and one that is not. This category is the second-best option, listed separately so it is never mistaken for the first.

The claim worth checking is the lining. A standard paper cup is paper with a thin polyethylene film fused to it, which is why it cannot be recycled with paper and does not break down in a home compost. The items here use PLA or an aqueous coating instead. That makes them commercially compostable: they need an industrial facility running at temperature, not a garden heap. If your venue does not have a commercial organics stream, a compostable cup ends up in exactly the same landfill as a conventional one, and you have paid a premium for nothing.

So the question to answer before ordering is not about the cup. It is whether the venue separates organics. Ask them first; we will tell you honestly if the answer means you should buy something else.

Print quality is better than people expect, full-colour flexo wraps the whole cup, and minimums are higher than reusables because these are printed in press runs. Minimum around 50 pieces with 7–16 business days production. Rush production is available on selected items.

Frequently asked questions

Are compostable cups actually better than regular paper cups?
Only if they reach a commercial composting facility. The material is genuinely different, a plant-based lining instead of a polyethylene film, but composting is an industrial process, not a property of the cup. In a landfill the environmental difference is close to nothing. Confirm your venue's organics collection before you pay the premium.
Can compostable cups go in a home compost bin?
Generally no. PLA-lined items need sustained temperatures a garden heap does not reach. A small number of uncoated paper products are home-compostable and will say so explicitly; if the listing does not say it, assume commercial only.
Are these recyclable instead?
No, and this trips people up. A compostable cup contaminates a paper recycling stream the same way a plastic-lined one does. Compostable and recyclable are different disposal routes and an item is designed for one of them.
What is the minimum order?
Around 50 pieces. Printed cups run higher than most categories here because they are produced in press runs rather than decorated individually. 7–16 business days production.
Would you rather sell us reusables?
For anything you hand to a person to keep, yes, see reusable water bottles or tumblers. Single-use makes sense when the cup stays at the venue and volume makes reuse impractical. Those are different problems and we would rather you solved yours than bought the wrong one.
