Biodegradable & Compostable Products

292 products · minimums from 100 · 5–15 business days

These two words are used interchangeably in marketing and mean different things. Biodegradable only says a material will eventually break down — with no timeframe and no conditions attached, which makes it nearly unfalsifiable and close to meaningless on its own. Compostable is the specific claim: it breaks down into non-toxic components within a defined period, and certification states whether that requires an industrial composting facility or works in a home compost heap.

The distinction matters practically. PLA — corn-starch bioplastic, the most common compostable material in promotional products — requires industrial composting at sustained high temperature. In a home heap or a landfill it behaves much like conventional plastic. If the item will realistically go into household waste, a compostable claim is doing less than it appears to.

Minimum around 100 pieces, production 5–15 business days. Rush production is available on selected items.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable?
Biodegradable means it will break down eventually, with no specified timeframe or conditions. Compostable is a certifiable standard: it breaks down within a set period into non-toxic material, under stated conditions. Ask which certification applies and whether it needs industrial composting.
Does compostable plastic break down in a home compost?
PLA generally does not — it needs sustained high temperature found in industrial facilities. Some materials are certified for home composting specifically; that is a separate and stricter certification, so check for it rather than assuming.
