Metal is the best-behaved material in this catalogue at end of life: aluminium and steel are recycled indefinitely without quality loss, and recycling aluminium uses roughly 5% of the energy of producing it from bauxite. That single figure is why recycled-content metal bottles have moved from novelty to mainstream in the last few years.
It also means the material has a genuinely circular story that most plastics cannot claim — a recycled aluminium bottle can become another one, repeatedly, whereas rPET degrades with each cycle. The trade-offs are that aluminium bottles are usually single-wall rather than vacuum insulated, and that the inner lining is a coating rather than bare metal.
