Seed paper is recycled pulp with seeds embedded in it. Planted and watered, the paper decomposes and the seeds germinate — the only promotional product category designed to leave nothing behind. It is the natural centrepiece of an Earth Day campaign and the cleanest answer to the argument that promotional products are inherently disposable.

Seeds stay viable for roughly a year, so this is not stock to buy ahead of time. Use a regionally appropriate wildflower mix rather than a generic one — species that are harmless in one state can be invasive in another — and design for a fibrous, absorbent surface where bold artwork works and fine serif type does not.

How do you plant seed paper?
Cover it with a thin layer of soil, water well and keep it moist. Germination usually takes one to three weeks depending on the seed mix and temperature. The paper breaks down as the seedlings establish.
What seeds are used?
Most commonly a wildflower mix, sometimes herbs or vegetables. Ask for a mix appropriate to where recipients live — a generic national mix can include species that are invasive in some regions.
