Glass is inert, endlessly recyclable and transfers no flavour whatsoever, which is why the people who dislike metal bottles reach for it. Paired with a silicone sleeve for grip and impact protection, it makes a genuinely pleasant daily-use bottle. The obvious limitation is fragility — poor for site work, gyms and anything involving children.

Silicone deserves a more careful description than it usually gets. It is made from silica and is extremely durable, temperature-stable and reusable for years, but it is not biodegradable and kerbside recycling will not take it. Its value is displacement of single-use items over a long service life, not end-of- life recovery.
